What does an Educator do?

As an educator, you work with children and young people. You look after, educate and support them. You observe how the children and young people behave and how they develop. You support them by using certain pedagogical methods, depending on their age. You motivate and play with the protégés. You also treat minor injuries, prepare meals and teach the young people about personal hygiene. An important feature of your work is that you maintain close contact with the parents and inform and advise them about their children.

What is important?

  • Sense of responsibility (you supervise young people)
  • Empathy and the ability to deal with conflict (e.g. when dealing with sad children)
  • Communication skills (e.g. talking to parents)
  • Psychological stability (e.g. with noisy and wild children)
